When a refugee family arrives, GH takes donated items to set up an apartment for them. Groups/individuals can collect or use items from our warehouse. We rely on volunteers to assist in setting up these homes. Apartment set ups usually take place in the northwest Valley and take approximately two-three hours.Sign Up
We always need volunteers to sort and organize donations at our warehouse. Volunteers might receive donations, stock shelves, make kits, load a moving truck or help in other ways. Some duties require physical strength and stamina. Others can be accomplished with limited mobility. Children of any age are welcome with the supervision of an adult. Youth under 16 need adult supervision. Volunteers need to sign a waiver and are asked to take a two and a half hour shift.Sign Up
We provide each refugee with two weeks of groceries when they arrive. If you would like to order and pay for two weeks worth of groceries for a refugee family, you can shop using our list as a guide. You can also make a Walmart online grocery order that a GH volunteer will pick up. Click on the links for a grocery list specific to the refugee family’s country of origin and more details about delivery. We provide a prepared meal for each refugee family upon arrival. You can make a meal, specific to the country of the refugee family, for them to eat upon arrival. Please follow the guidelines for the meal preparation.Sign Up
In addition to apartment set up volunteers and volunteers helping at the warehouse, groups can help in these ways as well. Click learn more to find out how you can get involved.Learn More
During November and December, GH identifies refugee families needing extra help and matches a family with a volunteer or family/group who would like to “adopt” them for the holidays. Please email email@example.com if you would like more information about adopting a refugee family for the holidays.
